The New Rouse Hill lights up this Christmas
Date: 8/12/2011

In the spirit of the holiday season, The New Rouse Hill is encouraging all their residents to participate in a series of Christmas initiatives including a Christmas Lights competition and the annual Christmas Lantern Parade.

The initiatives have been designed to embrace the festive season and promote a sense of belonging amongst residents of The New Rouse Hill.

To be part of the Christmas Competition fun, residents were invited to enter one of three categories to make their house shine: best lit house & garden, best novelty theme/scene and best sustainable lights. Voting will take place early December with local winners competing in the regional competition against other Lend Lease communities.

The spectacular light show will be open to all residents and community members throughout the month of December. Spectators are invited to roam Bellcast Road, Holly Street and Hedge Street and enjoy the season.

In the spirit of giving, there will be a series of prizes to be won. First prize in each category will receive a $300 Rouse Hill Town Centre Gift Voucher and a Smart Meter.

If residents are not entering their home, they can still take part in the fun by voting as the winners will be decided by the residents’ votes.

To be involved in the Christmas Lantern Parade residents need to start collecting their two  litre milk bottles to make their lanterns. This is done by carefully cutting off the top of the milk bottle, placing a little sand in the bottle, and putting a tealight candle in the bottom. The last step is to light the candle and line the streets of The New Rouse Hill at 8pm on Christmas Eve.

The New Rouse Hill Project Director, Ranisha Clarke, explained how well the Christmas initiatives had been received throughout the community.

“The Christmas initiatives are a wonderful opportunity for our residents to work together. We are thrilled at the response we have had to participate and we look forward to sharing the Christmas spectacle with the local community,

Local winners will be notified by phone and announced at the residents’ Meet Your Neighbours Christmas event on 14th December at 6:30pm.

These winners will then be judged in a regional competition alongside Bingara Gorge, Ropes Crossing, Nelsons Ridge and Springbank Rise in the ACT.
